Corporate Overview and Our Approach to Sustainability
Corporate responsibility
At Twist, we integrate corporate responsibility into our core strategy because it advances our business goals and builds long-term customer and shareholder value.
"Our commitment to corporate responsibility begins with the very core of our technology. Our DNA synthesis platform is not only industry-disruptive — it is inherently sustainable. By miniaturizing the chemistry of ‘writing’ DNA, we use 99.8% less chemicals than legacy 96-well plate approaches, enabling us to deliver exceptional products with a significantly smaller carbon footprint. This sustainable-by-design approach empowers our customers to pursue their boldest ideas while reducing impact on the planet."

Environmental
We have miniaturized traditional chemical DNA synthesis reactions to write over one million short pieces of DNA on each silicon chip which is approximately the size of a large mobile phone. As a result of these efforts our core platform technology reduces waste and consumption of chemical reagents by 99.8%, making our process significantly more sustainable and environmentally friendly than 96-well plate methods.
96-well plate-based approaches can emit up to 23,000 grams of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) per gene*, while Twist processes emit a minuscule 36 grams of CO2e (0.036 kilograms) per gene*.

Furthering our commitment to the planet, Twist Bioscience has committed to set near-term company-wide emission reductions in line with climate science with the SBTi.
As participants of the United Nations Global Compact, Twist continues with our pledge to support the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact on human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. We have committed to the advancement of the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
In July 2025 Twist successfully submitted its Communication on Progress (CoP) to the UNGC, demonstrating its continued support to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Our miniaturization technology dramatically reduces the amount of consumables we need in the first place—meaning we use far fewer gloves than traditional processes would require. And for the gloves we do use, we make sure they don’t go to waste.
Since 2019, Twist has been recycling nitrile gloves in partnership with The RightCycle™ Program from Kimberly-Clark Professional. To date, this program successfully diverted over 31,422 pounds of plastic waste from landfills. In January 2024, we expanded the recycling program to include other forms of PPE to continue to improve our company’s waste reduction efforts.
Since 2020, Twist has received the Kimberly-Clark Professional Greenovation Award every year, including 2025, recognizing our waste diversion achievements. Twist takes pride in this program and aims to inspire similar initiatives for a more sustainable future.
Since 2022, Twist has partnered with Polycarbin to recycle plastic tip boxes used in our R&D labs in South San Francisco, Wilsonville, OR, and Quincy, MA, facilities.
As of July 15, 2025, we have achieved the following:
